A place of inquiry into
humanity and the world, in love of wisdom

Greetings. I am Ahn Jae-Ho, Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Chung-Ang University. Since its founding in 1953, our department has played a central role in Korean humanities for over seventy years. Embracing both Eastern and Western traditions, classical and contemporary thought, we have established ourselves as a place of learning that confronts the deepest questions of human existence and the world. In an era flooded with information and rapid change, we must each judge for ourselves what is right and what holds value. Our department is fully committed to nurturing students who read the thought of all times and cultures critically, think in their own voice, and empathize with the perspectives of others. The study of philosophy may seem an intangible, impractical pursuit, but ultimately it shapes a person's life and the direction of society at the deepest level. Every member of our department will work together to ensure that this pursuit of wisdom contributes to your growth and to the progress of our time. We look forward to your interest and support.
